The W Family | St. Louis Children’s Photographer

I love having the W family as my friends, my neighbors AND my clients. It means that I get to spend time with people I adore all the while working with my kiddos as perfect little helpers! Little T just turned 6 months and he is the smiliest little guy and his big sister is becoming such a little beauty.

The M Family | Freeburg, Ill., Newborn and Children’s Photographer

It was so exciting to get to meet the newest member of the M family. Sweet little J was so super sweet and, although sleep was not his top priority, he did doze off long enough for us to capture all of his cuteness. His older sisters couldn’t be prouder or cuter and they were so sweet with them.

Welcome to the world J!

Baby B | St. Louis Newborn Photographer

Oh my, how I love little babies. Especially little happy babies! This little man was a few weeks older than I’m used to seeing, but boy was he a happy baby! He looked up at me with big eyes and stared at me with a content little look on his face! Isn’t he darling! His mom won a package for a custom photography session at a United Way Auction, and I was so happy to meet them and to support such a wonderful cause at the same time! Welcome to the world baby b!

The J Family | St. Louis Children and Family Photographer

I met the J family quite a few years ago when I was just starting out and was super excited when mom contacted me about taking updated pictures of her family. They added a new member to the family and he is super cute! They were so excited about the session and tolerated the heat really well! The kids had a great time, especially when we gave them wagon rides, bubbles, suckers and soda! You’d never know their little one was battling a cold!

The Simple Things – Play Ball | St. Louis Children’s Photographer

In case you missed the last in the series of The Simple Things, click here.

So many times as a photographer, I get caught up in striving for perfection. I want the perfect light, the perfect expression, the perfect picture. Sometimes I achieve this perfection, but it’s at the sake of capturing the every day, those simple moments that make each day special. To help me remember these important snapshots of real life, I’ve joined a group of fellow photographers in a little blog series called “The Simple Things.” Each month we will shoot one of those simple moments in our lives that we have been neglecting with our cameras.  At the bottom of this post you will find a link to the next photographer’s blog.  Click through all of them until you complete the circle!

This month was super fun in our house especially for our oldest! Audrey lost her very first tooth AND started her first season of t-ball! Since daddy is helping coach her team, I thought I’d better document her first game! It was so.much.fun and the girls looked like they’d been playing together for years! We were seriously impressed!

Her team isn’t all that big, but two of the girls weren’t there when we snapped this first picture. I think I’ll have to do real team pictures before the season ends! This is what my other two kids were doing during the game. Drew rolled down the hill and Jocelyn tried hard to get onto the field! Mommy missed her first at bat. Oh, I feel so bad! But here is daddy giving her some advice! During her second at-bat, daddy gave her a great pep talk. She knocked the ball past the pitcher and ran ran ran! And after three innings, the kids learned something else new – that no matter what, you always have to be good sports and congratulate the other team. “good game good game good game good game good game good game good game good game good game….” Be sure to continue through our blog circle. Next up is Precious | Photos by Helen Savage in Lisburn, Northern Ireland! Enjoy and thanks for visiting!

Happy Birthday J | Millstadt, Ill., Children’s Photographer

It’s always amazing when I get the call that one of my newborns is turning one. It shows me that time really.does.fly! This cutie was born last year at the start of Cardinal season and here we are again, watching baseball and celebrating him again, this time for his big day!

J has always been a super star for me. Really, he smiles, he looks my direction, he does those both at the same time…that doesn’t always happen with the younger set. 🙂 But J, well, he easily captured my heart from the beginning and I love to hear of all of his milestones, so close to my own Jocelyn’s and sometimes ahead of hers (he walked first, said Uh-oh first, and could fake sneeze before she could!).

Happy Birthday J. It’s been a wonderful year watching you grow into such a sweet little boy!!

And because he liked his cake smash so much. 🙂

Happy Birthday J! | St. Charles Children’s Photographer

Sweet baby J, who made such an early appearance into this world, has gone and grown up on us! He is ONE! I just can’t believe that this big-cheeked, cuddly little man was that same tiny preemie I first met in the NICU! We are so honored to know him and his family and I love that our kiddos will grow up knowing him and his big brother as their friends too. Happy birthday little man!!

J was so straight faced throughout his session, but boy did he enjoy his cake smash!!

Baby B is ONE! | Belleville, Ill., Children’s Photographer

I’m so lucky that my sister-in-law comes to visit as often as she does because so far I haven’t had to miss an age milestone for photographing my nephew! He was feeling really under the weather on the day we took these, but he perked up for just a bit so we were excited to get great big Baby B smiles out of him! Isn’t he the cutest!? I love to have him visit because he’s almost exactly one month younger than Jocelyn and they are doing so many of the same things! Seeing them together is too cute for words!

Love you B!

The Simple Things – Sunday | St. Louis Children’s Photographer

I missed month two of The Simple Things project because we were vacationing at Disney. I had really really good intentions for getting my photos and blog post ready before I left, but life got in the way. We had a wonderful [insert fantastic, fabulous, didn’t-want-to-come-home-good] time, but now I’m getting back to reality and photography and capturing the every day!

In case you missed the first in the series of The Simple Things, click here.

Earlier this month, my sister-in-law called to tell me that the peach trees at their orchard were in bloom. I was excited! They are pink and gorgeous so we set up a fun night for our kids to play and threw in a photo session on top of it all.  We had fun, we had play time, but we also had rain. After a series of 10 pictures, we rushed the kids back inside. Why am I telling you this if I am not sharing orchard pictures? Because I rented a lens for that session and, since I still had it to play with on Sunday, I used it to capture our ordinary Sunday.

We usually make it to early Mass on Sundays followed by breakfast or brunch and this particular Sunday was no exception. Afterwards, we had such beautiful weather that we ventured outside. 70 degrees in March is a real treat in St. Louis!! Daddy was working in the yard so the kids came out to help. The 70-200 2.8 L II is a fabulous lens. You’d never know these pictures were taken taken in front of the ugliest part of our front yard. Yes, I need this lens. 🙂 This is going to turn into an expensive project.

My little guy now turns everything into a ‘shooter gun.’ I guess it’s a boy thing; big sister has never ‘shot’ anything. Here he is playing with daddy’s weed sprayer. Since daddy was working in the yard and it had rained the night before, we decided to go for a puddle walk. Guess which kid likes to have her picture taken more than the other? Oh, and my baby sat nicely in the stroller the entire time. You’ll see her later. 🙂 Rain boots are fun. And guess what happens when two kids are very tired of having a big long lens (however fabulous it might be) pointed in their direction?

And big sister gets tired of being shot with a camera AND little brother’s ‘shooter guns.’

It was finally nap time and we’ve started to put our kids in separate rooms for naps. They share a room right now and have a hard time falling asleep at the same time so usually one of them sleeps in my bed. Today, it was Drew’s turn.

But first we read stories in their room. Boy does their room have nice light. Too bad it’s a small room with two twin beds and a lot of toys (and laundry). 🙂

And here’s a little extra love for my baby since she was confined to her stroller all morning. 🙂 She saw daddy outside and thought it was so funny! Aafter naps we went to Grandma and Grandpa’s for dinner. We blew bubbles with our bubble machine.

And then Jocelyn really really wanted to go out and grill with Grandpa.

Be sure to continue through our blog circle. Next up is Shannon Stroubakis Photography in the Woodlands, TX! Enjoy and thanks for visiting!

I have so many favorites 🙂 I love the orchard shots (so sorry to hear about the rain!) but I really adore the everyday-Sunday shots! The weed sprayer shooter gun cracks me up, but I love how happy your children all look. And the shots of the two on the porch are just hilariously funny!!! Thank you for sharing a peek into your Sunday, you have a beautiful family 🙂

  2. Leslie Crane

These are simply gorgeous. (My sons can turn anything into a weapon, too. A stick, a sock, a cheese sandwich…)

  3. Sonia Trocchio

Sundays at your house look like fun! I love them all, especially the puddle jumping ones and those of your little one looking out the window at daddy! Your children will treasure these!

  4. Amber

Love these Laura! The rainboots and puddle shots are my favorite. So glad you made it back this month! Your work is gorgeous 🙂

  5. Jackie

these are all SO sweet and they look like they had so much fun with you! Wonderful work!

  6. Tracy

So cute!! Our family is so blessed to have your talents and how great that your ‘work’ and experimenting results in preserving memories and your sweet kids’ childhoods forever!! As a mom of 3 boys I can totally relate to Drew’s sprinkler GUN picture as everything in our house ends up as a weapon. The nature vs. nurture debate is solved.

  7. Shannon Stroubakis

These are precious! My favourites are the rainboots too, in the puddles. Such a happy kid thing to do!

  8. Helen Savage

Beautiful work! Really love these, especially the rain boot ones!

  9. Kristina

I need to get some rainboots. It has been too long since I have stomped in a puddle, no inhibitions! Aren’t kids fabulous? Yours are just gorgeous, thanks for sharing your family!
