Blog Love

A photographer I know contacted me to see if she could could quote me on some ideas I gave in response to a photography forum in which I participate. I, of course, gave her permission thinking the ideas were pretty much a given! However, I’ve come to realize as a photographer AND a mom, it’s really hard not to stress when you are having your own family pictures taken so I simply gave suggestions I’ve learned along the way!

For example, instead of spending all of my time trying to convince Audrey and Drew to smile pretty for the camera, bribe or threathen them, or get mad at them when they don’t cooperate, I should just let the photographer do her thing and trust that she will get my kids to coopeerate! Still, I find myself stressed out anyway and doing all the things I just mentioned!

So, if you are worried about an upcoming session and aren’t sure what to think, do or expect, read through this article written by Amy Stone of Jady Images of Miami, Fla.  It’s titled, “Preparing for a Family Portrait” and will give you some great ideas!  (FYI, DD = Dear Daughter and DH = Dear Husband)

I just might have to start sharing tips as I learn more in my photography journey, which will hopefully help everyone have a more enjoyable and relaxing photo experience! Enjoy!

Sneak Peek – Little J and the B Fam!

I got to shoot little J as a newborn (check him out in my flash header!) and he’s now almost six months old! It was time for some new pictures of him and his family. How stinking cute is he?!? I might be a bit biased; his parents are great friends of ours and our little guys are going to be great friends as they grow up!

We went to a park near their house, found some awesome leaves and a gorgeous lake and he did a great job for the camera! Here are two little gems I came across and couldn’t wait to post! Couldn’t you just eat Him UP!!??? XOXO!

Sneak Peek – Meeting the H Family

I had a great time meeting the H family today! They were in town from California and called to see if we could squeeze in a session. So we chose 1 p.m. at Forest Park because great grandma had dedicated a tree to little Miss A! What a great idea! We looked around for a good spot and found this little area with shade AND gorgeous fall colors! Here are two I just had to share; you can see thehappiness four  generations of H women share and how sweet is Great Grandma with the youngest family member? Aren’t they gorgeous? IMG_3927blog

Sneak Peek – The C Family

It was a busy weekend for me and the C family was my second shoot of the weekend. If you remember, the Cs were one of the first families to give me a shot and it was challenging with 2 1/2 year old twin boys and an almost one year old! Well, I’ve learned a thing or two and got some terrific pics this time! I got eye contact and posing and cooperation from all three kids (even if mom isn’t so sure! wink wink), but I promise, they look like little J. Crew models!  As I’ve mentioned before, I am saving family pictures for the families to enjoy themselves! IMG_3523 Blog IMG_3729 Blog

Sneak Peek – The W Family!

I had a fun session on Saturday with this little cutie and her parents! Mom told me little Miss S was a hard one and often didn’t smile when they hoped she would, but we got a few smiles out of her! Well, actually, she was all smiles for her daddy. Isn’t that often the case for sweet little girls? They love their daddies! She was adorable  and cooperative for being so little and even gave us some happy smiles while on her tummy! I hope mom and dad enjoy this sneak peek of their little cutie!!! Thanks for a great morning! IMG_3599 IMG_3523

Sneak Peek – The H Family

Today’s photo shoot almost wasn’t meant to be…I said almost! The Weather was iffy at best, and I was meeting the H family in Waterloo. I dropped Tim and the kids off at Costco and headed to the east side. I drove through pouring rain the entire time and was starting to get really disappointed! See, Erin H. and I are friends from high school and I was really excited when she contacted me about taking pictures of her family. Her little guy is the cutest! However, I kept going, just hoping that we’d get a break in the weather.

I got to the park where we were meeting and the rain had stopped! We scoped out the location and only spent about 35 minutes shooting , but we stayed dry the entire time! This family is SO photogenic! Here are two of my favorites I’m sharing for a sneak peek; I’m saving the awesome family pictures for them! Little J was happy and smiley and looked and me whenever I was ready to take a snap. I’m so glad the weather held out; the fall colors are gorgeous as are my friends…don’t you agree!? Sneak Peek – M & J

The beautiful fall colors are peaking right now and therefore, we couldn’t have had a more perfect weekend to get pictures of M & J! This brother sister duo is so sweet and actually like each other! When I’d ask Mr. M to do something, he was SO cute (oh, but he’s a kindergartner now and would so hate to be called cute-ha!) and would say, “Oh Alright!” They introduced me to a new park that I’m in love with-Blackburn Park in Webster Groves-it is beautiful! Here is a sneak peek of these two cuties – so full of fun and personality! They gave me some wonderful practice, terrific smiles and a really enjoyable morning! It was capped off with a few swinging high fives on the playground! These are two of my favorites, but there are more I love that I can’t wait to get to mom! Untitled-2 IMG_3298

Sneak Peak – Little Miss B

Saturday was a gorgeous fall day and I had a gorgeous little model! I met Miss B, a 2 1/2 year old cutie, at Eckert’s in Millstadt where we enjoyed the barns, fences and even the orchard. She was such a little superstar and a trooper through a change of clothes in the cold and a lot of walking! The best part?  When mom said, “Look at Miss Laura,” she actually did it! She was smiley and sweet, and I just can’t get enough of her curls!!! Here’s a sneak peek for mom! Enjoy! IMG_2958 Blog Feather Blog

Sneak Peak – A & M

I met these two little cuties and their mom at Forest Park for their photo session today. Mom wanted fun, casual, playful pictures, which sounded fun to me! It was quite a game of chase as A ran from my camera, but they did really well, and we got some great shots after a game of chase and some fruit snacks! They were so much fun and loved making Zing noises, climbing on rocks and finding buckeyes!  Here is a sneak peek from our session! Andrew Blog Michael Blog Shoulder blog

Sneak Peak – C & GG

These two little cuties are not models straight out of a catalog; they belong to a good friend of mine! Aren’t they gorgeous? We had so much fun at the park, though Mr. C did say, “I wish I had my Crocs on so I could play in the water and mud!” What boy wouldn’t? Instead, he posed for me like he knew just what to do! Don’t let his sweet smile fool you though; he’s still a big brother who squeezes his sister’s hand a little bit too hard. Of course, it’s hard to complain considering he’ll still acutally hold his little sister’s hand! Carter

Miss GG is full of personality. A little silly, a little sassy, a lot of fun! I have lots more pictures to share, but these are just a few to start with! georgie Pre-Squeeze! 🙂 Carter and Georgie Blog
